Paris Olympics 2024 concluded: India finished at 71st spot
Paris Olympics 2024 comes to an end with the glittering closing ceremony at Stade de France. India, with a total of 6 medals, including one silver and five bronze medals, finished at the 71st spot in the overall medal tally, which is significantly lower than their 48th overall finish at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they won a total of 7 medals, including one gold, two silver, and four bronze medals.
Last day at the quadrennial extravaganza, Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan won gold in the women’s marathon in a sprint finish to claim her third medal. The 31-year-old accelerated in the final 200 metres to cross the line in an Olympic record two hours 22 minutes 55 seconds, three seconds ahead of Ethiopian Tigst Assefa who won silver medal. Hassan’s victory came only two days after she won bronze in the 10,000m and six days after 5,000m bronze. Kenya’s Hellen Obiri finished third. Where as Ethiopia’s Tamirat Tola claimed men’s marathon gold.
The 2028 Summer Olympics are set to be held in Los Angeles. It’s the third time Los Angeles has hosted the games, following 1932 and 1984. Baseball and softball will be making their Olympic return in Los Angeles, with new sports flag football, cricket, lacrosse and squash.
The United States came out on top in the Olympic medal count with a stunning total of 126 medals, including forty gold. China also with forty gold came in second in the total medal tally with 91. Japan came third with 45 medals including 20 gold and Australia came 4th with 18 gold and overall tally of 53.
