Newly Elected MPs Take Oath On Second Day Of 1st Session Of 18th Lok Sabha



Several newly elected MPs today took oath on the second day of the first session of 18th Lok Sabha. Prominent MPs who took oath from Maharashtra include Supriya Sule and Amol Khole of NCP (Sharad Pawar), Dr. Shrikant Shinde of Shiv Sena (Shinde group) as well as BJP MP Narayan Rane, and Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT). From Punjab, former Chief Minister and Congress MP Charanjeet Singh Channi, Harsimrat Kaur Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal took oath, besides Sambit Patra, Baijayant Panda, and Pratap Chandra Sarangi of BJP from Odisha.

 

Congress MPs from Manipur, Alfred Kanngam S Arthur and Angomcha Bimol Akoijam also took oath this afternoon. From Rajasthan, BJP MPs Om Birla and Dushyant Singh, and Congress MP Harish Chandra Meena, Amraram of CPI(M), and Hanuman Beniwal of RLP also took oath. The elected MPs from Tamil Nadu and Telenagna also made affirmations before the house. From Tamil Nadu, Dayanidhi Maran, TR Baalu and Kanimozhi Karunanidhi of DMK, Sasikanth Senthil of Congress and K Gopinath also took the oath. From Telangana, BJP’s Arvind Dharmapuri, Congress’s Suresh Kumar Shetkar and AIMIMs’ Asaduddin Owaisi also took oath.  

 

Today, MPs took oath in a number of languages including  Punjabi, Marathi, Odia, Tamil besides Hindi, Urdu and English. The oath taking is underway in the house.    

 

Yesterday, a total of 266 MPs took oath and the remaining MPs are taking oath today. The election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker is scheduled tomorrow, while the President Droupadi Murmu will address the joint sitting of both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
